Course Description

The design and function of the starting, stopping and reversing systems used on the MC engines are covered, as well as the entire pneumatic manoeuvring system.

Fuel Injection System. Design, operation and overhaul of fuel pumps, fuel injection valves, and high-pressure pipes. Function and adjustment of the Super-VIT System.

Design and service experience of the bearings on the various engines are studied. Inspections methods and repair criteria for main bearings, crankpin bearings and crosshead bearings. The crankshaft alignment curve based on deflection readings is explained.

Cylinder lubrication and feed rate, inspection of the Cylinder conditions and pistons through the scavenge ports are covered. Reasons for abnormal cylinder condition and piston ring failure and possible countermeasures are discussed.

The function of the exhaust valves as well as the latest improvements are covered. Factors influencing the service life are discussed together with the correct overhauling and grinding methods. Condition checks and routine adjustment of the Chain drive are discussed, as well as the hydraulic adjustment of the camshaft.
