|Advanced Training For Gas Tanker Cargo Operations (GASCO) [D. G. Approved]|
Entry Criteria: CoC as 2m(FG), MEO Class IV/NWKO, AFFC, 3m seagoing service on Gas tankers and Level-1 DCE (Gas) endorsement or GTFC Course Certificate
Course Duration: 10 Days
This course provides training for masters, chief engineers, chief officers, 2nd engineers and any person with immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging and care in transit or handling of gas cargoes.
It comprises a specialized training programme appropriate to their duties, including gas tanker safety, fire safety measures and systems, pollution prevention, operational practice and obligations under applicable laws and regulations.
The course takes full account of Section A-V/1 of the STCW Code adopted by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978, as amended in 1995.
A specialized liquefied gas tanker training programme (GASCO) is a mandatory course for obtaining level - 2 Gas Tanker Endorsement (DCE), which is a requirement under STCW chapter V/1 for all officers wanting to serve on board liquefied gas tankers in the management level, in addition such personnel must have completed the Tanker Familiarization course and have experience appropriate to their duties on liquefied gas tankers with immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging and care in transit or handling of cargo.
Contents of the course
In addition to the above contents of the course the participant will carry out exercises for cargo operations on a full mission Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator, as below:-
- Chemistry and physics.
- Hazards of Gas Cargoes.
- Regulations and codes of practice.
- Cargo containment.
- Cargo handling systems & general principles of cargo operations.
- Cargo calculation.
- Fire fighting and pollution prevention.
- Emergency procedures.
- Controlling and monitoring of Inerting, Gassing up and Cooldown of cargo tanks.
- Controlling and monitoring of loading, unloading and cooling operation of LPG Cargoes.
- Principles and operation of Reliquefaction plant.
